Buying AC OnlineEverything You Need to Know!
You don’t have to be an HVAC expert to purchase your central air system replacement. However, there are a few things you should know to be sure you’re getting exactly what you want and need.
What Type of System will you purchase?
Most of the time, you’ll replace the same type of system you already have. You either have a Package System or a Split System. The Package System, with both the condenser and the air handler together, is located outside either on the ground or on your roof. The other type of AC unit, the Split System has the condenser is located outside, while the air handler is inside, often in a closet. It’s typically more affordable to keep the same type of system, using existing duct work and electrical connections.
What Size system do you need?
This is where changes can occur. If you have added an addition since your existing system was installed, you may need to increase from what you currently have. It really comes down to how large the space is you need to coo. That’s determined by confirming the square footage of the entire space and then determining the size unit that can cool that space. Yes, if you did that remodel or addition, you may find yourself in need of more than one unit. Here’s a look at the chart to get you started:
Square Footage Tonnage/Size
